Who Inara is, is really anyone's guess. She's a well-respected companion with skills beyond compare. But she has no time for social graces. She's more of a 'straight to bed' kind of girl. No one knows who she is, or where she comes from. Her secretive ways have wrapped her in an enigmatic cloud of mystery.
The only thing that anyone knows for sure is that, when Simon Tam calls, Inara always runs to him. It seems that he has her wrapped around his finger, but maybe not. If the discounts and adoring looks are any indication, a strong case can be made for the Companion's total and complete devotion to the good doctor. One could even say she was in love with him, the way she panicked when she found out that he would be leaving her behind.
...But maybe that's what she wants people to think, and her motives are really more sinister? The 'verse may never know.

Inara wasn't born into the best family.
Her mother didn't care. Her father just needed something to take his frustrations out on.
One Day when she was barely 9 years old, a man came. He knew what was happening and took her away. He put her into the companion Training house and started to train her during her off time to be an Alliance agent. She owes him her life. And she's aware it's his to take.
She calls him father. But he's anything but.
